Jorge Cantuarias, Founder and Chief Executive Officer


Jorge Cantuarias is the founder and CEO of BAM. Jorge has over 20 years of experience managing projects in the Peruvian rainforests with an emphasis on agriculture and forestry-related operations.

He is a shareholder and board member of SEM Group (part of Grupo TEVAL), a Chilean-based company with operations in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Central America which is focused on the development, production and marketing of seeds with high yield potential. He is also a co-founder of SEM Peru, SEM Peru-Selva and Granos Tropicales. Jorge received the “Entrepreneurial Creativity Award” from the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas in 2000. He has a BA in Economics from Universidad de Lima where he also studied Law.



Jorge Torres, Forest Carbon Manager


Jorge Torres is Forest Carbon Manager at BAM, in charge of overseeing the portfolio of conservation and reforestation projects in the Peruvian Amazon. Jorge has worked in the Peruvian Amazon Region for more than 11 years in private companies and non-profit organizations promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.

Jorge was involved in achieving the first FSC certified forest in Peru with five indigenous communities, the first two reforestation projects registered under CDM and VCS standards respectively and the first REDD project which obtained a CCBA Gold certification. Jorge is a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the National Commission for Climate Change (Environment Ministry of Peru) and was part of the Official Peruvian Delegation in COP 15 (Copenhagen). Jorge has been a speaker in conferences about REDD in Brazil, Peru and Vietnam. Jorge holds a BA in Economics from Universidad Catolica in Lima, Peru.
